The best material for a shirt depends on use and personal preference. For maximum comfort and versatility, cotton is often considered the best choice. Cotton is breathable, soft and absorbent, making it ideal for everyday use and a variety of occasions.

For a more casual shirt or for warmer climates, linen is an excellent option. It's light and airy, perfect for keeping cool in hot weather. However, it tends to wrinkle easily.

Cotton-polyester blends can offer better wrinkle resistance and easier care, although they are less breathable than pure cotton.

Wash your shirts in cold or lukewarm water to avoid damaging the fibers and reduce the risk of wrinkling. Use a gentle wash cycle to minimize sudden movements that can cause wrinkling. Add fabric softener to soften fibers and reduce wrinkling.

Take shirts out of the machine as soon as the wash cycle is complete to prevent creasing while they're in the drum. Dry your shirts on a hanger so that gravity helps prevent wrinkling. Straighten collars, cuffs and buttons to help them dry more neatly.

To recognize a quality men's shirt, look first at the fabric, which should be soft and tightly woven. Check the seams, which should be fine, even and tightly stitched to guarantee strength and a neat finish. The collar should be well structured, and the cuffs should be reinforced and perfectly aligned when buttoned. Mother-of-pearl buttons, more durable and elegant than plastic ones, are another sign of quality, as are solidly sewn buttons with a cross or zigzag stitch and a small knot at the back to prevent them from coming loose.
